It was first brought up, jokingly.
Then we sat on the idea.
Then the idea lit a fire.
We got Dad to be on board.
There’s an immense amount of trust that goes into taking photos of someone giving birth. Communication is key, a huge level of comfort is always welcomed and a bucket load of love is required. There’s such an incredible support system that is in place during a home birth, there’s an energy and a connection that every person in the room will share for the rest of their life. It’s pure magic.
I feel blessed, because I’ve watched the love these two share grow over the last few years. I can still close my eyes and picture Jill on the beach on their wedding day, in the middle of a hurricane, her hair blowing around her face and Jason gazing down with a kind of love that books are written about. Clients come and go, it’s a part of the business; but every now and then… the most amazing ones come along. Eventually you feel like family, eventually you get a phone call in the middle of supper to “Come over, the contractions are close and the baby is coming really fast”
Love you THREE!
PS: 12 days later I got to hang out with Daniel again, but this time he was a little more well prepared and had his best blue steel ready.
Orion aka; Whirly Gig was born with a congenital heart defect called unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect. This made her extra radical and probably 12047x cuter. Her best friend is also a giant Irish Wolfhound named Mountain.
Since first being diagnosed at barely three weeks old, she’s ACED every single cardiologist visit and is growing like a weed and is now SIX months old. Getting bigger and stronger every day she’s off the hook for her surgery for a few more months – because she’s a super hero.
We spent this morning hanging with Whirls and her little half moon smeyes and we’re in love. More to come from this little beauty later!
I’ve really fallen behind on blogging, there’s no one to blame but myself.
Things I did on my brief blogging hiatus:
- Took thousands of photos: musicians, babies, weddings… oh my!
- Started practicing yoga
- Read so many books
- Covered Canadian Music Week
but most of my time was spent…
- Planning and crafting all the DIY factors for my offbeat little wedding. (It’s more work than you think, but it will be worth it!)
So to make up for the lack of photos, the next few blogs will be a potpourri of portraits.
Steve & Marie decided to get engaged and be mind blowingly awesome at the same time.
Rick and Lois finally tied the knot, in a beautiful tiny little ceremony at the Leaside Manor.
Addison and I had a bit of fun grabbing a few photos for her Christmas card to all her fabulous friends.
And adorable Eden celebrated her first Christmas with her super cool and loving parents!
So, Colton you’ve met several times by now.. and he’s basically ready to go into post secondary school already. Earlier in the fall we dropped by the Capital Hyundai Arena (big thanks to the guys there!!) and then took a wander downtown to grab a few shots of the cuteness of this little family that means oh so much to me.
His first hockey bench.
(The first of many we hope)
Serious sears pose happening here.
While Reese’s dad was working (mainly so he wouldn’t stop the mess we were going to make) her Mom Lori and I decided to let her eat a cake or two, and take a few photos to celebrate her first year on this earth! What better way to end of an afternoon of cake eating than a bath with your puppy.
I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed this hard at a kid during a shoot, Reese is a never ending bundle of fun.
LOVE the second frame, so much personality shining through. “This girl!!!”
And the sugar kicks in…
Straight to the bath we go!
Not a dry soul in the room at this point..
Back in September, Benjamin graced the world with his presence. I anxiously awaited the email that said he arrived, and shortly there after I met the little dude – camera in hand.
Brent and Jennifer are now happily married (and looked absolutely BEAUTIFUL while doing so!) But before they were married, they were in front of my camera with their beautiful daughter Myla to grab a few engagement photos and family portraits before the big day.
