I don’t know if it’s just me, but to me… it looks like, well. A joint. None the less, the Olympic torch relay stopped by Newfoundland this past weekend and I grabbed a few shots at the ceremony.

Olympic Torch Relay 2010

You know those couples, the ones who when you were in high school had been together since grade eight, the ones who you knew still got butterflies when they saw each other, the ones you just KNEW were meant to each other – and the question wasn’t “if” they’d ever get married, the question was “when?”.  That couple for me, was Elaine and Max. I’ve known Elaine since I was four years old, when I was a spoiled Toronto kid and would slap her when she didn’t want to play Barbie’s my way.

I started out “living across the cove”, and moved closer and close to her, so for most of my life she was always “just up the hill”.  Elaine’s family had become my family many many years ago, she stopped being my friend and started being my sister somewhere along the way. We’ve been there from out first heart breaks, to our first kisses (she was even in the room for mine!), to graduating high school and now marriage. It’s hard to picture what my life would have been like had I not had Elaine a 15 second jog up the hill from me. She was the first person I’d call every Christmas morning, she was the first person to take me in during a fight with my parents, and was always there to offer me a hug when I fell for boy after boy and they continuously broke my heart. (What can I say I was boy crazy? I mean, I still am!!)

I remember their first anniversary, their second, third, fourth, fifth… and then I just stopped counting. He makes her smile like there’s no tomorrow, and she still has that sparkle in her eye even after all these years – which cements the fact I’m sure they’ll be together for the rest of their life. I can’t remember the point where it just stopped being Elaine, and started being Elaine and Max – they’re one person in two bodies. (Are you crying yet girls? Haha) Hell, they’re even teachers at the same school in Harbour Brenton!

The entire day we were all fighting back tears, and I was doing an awesome job until I saw Max slip the ring onto her finger. I’ve never been so happy at a wedding in my entire life, as I was at this one. Rain didn’t stop us from rocking outdoor shots – they’re troopers, and she managed to take the Lions Center from a typical “bay” wedding into something out of this world.

As with most weddings, there were a few hiccups throughout the day in regards to other aspects besides photography, but the biggest compliment I’ve ever received at a wedding was from Elaine as we were saying our goodbyes before I left.

“You were the one person I knew I could count on, and the only thing I wasn’t worried about”
I love you two, now make me some babies.

Could I have asked for a more perfect couple? We met over wine and I was given free reign over locations for their wedding – both being extremely laid back and cool I knew Fort Amherst was the place to take these two. After a beautiful civil ceremony performed by the Mayor of St. John’s, we hopped in the Mustang (which Trudy surprised Dean with the morning of the wedding, not for keeps… but to ride around in!) and the Cadillac and headed to take over downtown St. John’s! Brides and Grooms take note on how amazing your photos can be if you just don’t worry about the dress, don’t stress about the rain and practice your breaking and entering skills.

Thanks for the FANTASTIC day Dean & Trudy! :)

These next two shots are my favorite from my wedding seasons so far!

I decided to take a break from wedding photo editing to edit this little beauty’s photos!

This baby girl’s mom grew up 30 seconds ‘up the hill from me’ and just like her mom she’s full of life! I’ve never seen a baby with more personality in my entire life – she just screams such an individuality that’s rare in babies her age! She also rocks the cutest facial expressions, like the Popeye, and constantly is sticking her tongue out at you. Nothing but giggles and laughter came out of Abigail throughout the entire shoot, seriously amazing to shoot!

I’ve already ranted about my love for these two and how cute they are – so you can imagine my excitement to shoot them on their wedding day. I think the words “My god Abigail you’re hot/beautiful/gorgeous” slipped out at least 20-30 times throughout the day. I can’t get over the pure love you see in their eyes in every shot, a love that found it’s way across the whole earth from Australia to Newfoundland!

They had a fantastic bridal party who kept me laughing – and an amazing family to support them!

Congrats!

Wayne e-mailed me after seeing a few of Kelly’s wedding pictures, to do a shoot with him and his daughter, Abby. Little did I know Abby would be the most beautiful photogenic little girl in the entire world. We spent the afternoon racing from tree to tree in exchange for poses, if she won or if I won determined what picture we would take. She had just gotten a brand new kitten, and they were also celebrating her Nan’s birthday! I knew the shoot had gone great, and she had enjoyed herself because at the end of the shoot Abby wanted a picture with me! We had a great afternoon, and I’m looking forward to shooting Abby again! :)

Mike and Leanne had an absolutely beautiful day for a wedding, the weather co-operated 150%, despite the freezing cold conditions AND they had awesomely scoped out fantastic locations for pictures! Both admitted they were a little shy in front of a camera, but they warmed up and gave me some of my most beautiful pictures from this summer. Leanne was smokin’ hot and combined with drop dead gorgeous bridesmaids, every shot was near perfection. We had a blast shooting – and partying on the party bus, as you can see Leanne had the party bus partying down to a science ;)

Congrats, and thanks for the fantastic day!

This is shortly after proclaiming they didn’t know how to do these poses… I think they lied.

I was super excited when I found out a friend of mine Sara Green was crowned Miss Newfoundland and Labrador for 2009-2010. Within the first 24 hours of her crowning she had messaged me and we started to plan a shoot. She gets a professional shoot with the extremely talented Kim Goodyear as an added bonus for winning, but Sara’s familiar with my style and knows that being a Rock Photographer – I’d help her ‘Rock the Crown’.

We headed out on a overcast evening, and tore downtown a new one. Two shots in, Sara cracked her crown, BUT being girls from the bay we both knew it was nothing a bit of tape couldn’t fix. After seeing the Holt Renfrew shoot that the Scope posted, I was determined that Sara could make that famous red door work just as well as any professional model – and damn I was right!

We ended the shoot at Mustang Sally’s for a proper feed of Nachos, Pizza and a cold one. Nothing like it!

Here’s a link to a great article by Denise Pike in the Compass, on Sara.

Congrats again Lady! :)

Ron is a friend of mine who contacted me about setting up a shoot for him and Brendan, and I obviously agreed to do it immediately! Look how cute these two are, and that nice warm sunset we had? Fantastic!!

Hello! I’ve begun to accept bookings for weddings in 2010, I debated roaming the world but decided to put it on hold after having such a fantastic season! :)
